For the First Time in Egyptian University Hospitals: Ain Shams University Enters the Era of Targeted
Nuclear Therapy for Prostate Cancer

In line with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research's vision to develop university hospitals and localize the latest global medical technologies, Ain Shams University Hospitals have begun using Theranostics technology to treat patients with advanced prostate cancer through targeted therapy using the Lu-177 PSMA receptor. This marks the first time such treatment has been offered in Egyptian university hospitals.
The technology precisely targets cancer cells that carry PSMA receptors, allowing for targeted treatment to reach the tumor and its spread, particularly for patients who have exhausted other available treatment options.
The introduction of this new technology represents a significant addition to the oncology treatment system in university hospitals. A number of doses are being provided free of charge to underprivileged patients in collaboration with the Oncidium Foundation and Femto Trade, thus enhancing access to advanced treatment for various segments of the population.
The initiative also included the transfer of expertise and practical training for medical and technical staff in the Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine departments. This was accompanied by integrated collaboration between the oncology and nuclear medicine specialties to select the patients who would benefit most from the treatment.
This achievement reflects the efforts of Ain Shams University Hospitals in localizing advanced medical technologies, supporting scientific research and medical training, and enhancing the quality of health services provided to patients.
